About Us
The Library Bar Forum is a place for Fine Gael minded people to meet up, discuss the burning issues of the day, and suggest how Fine Gael can best address them.
The Forum first came together in June 2007 following a thread on politics.ie, interested punters came together to meet in the Library Bar (hence the name) in Dublin City Centre. At first it wasn’t clear what people wanted. Some felt that we needed to create a post-Young Fine Gael organisation for those who have since left college and YFG. Others argued for a society which held large scale public debates for all Fine Gael people across the city. Others for the creation of a Fine Gael think tank.
In the end, it was decided to go with an informal group – open to all Fine Gael minded people – which would meet up about once a month, to have an open discussion on the issues of the day amongst all who attended. In addition to that, occasional large set piece debates would be organised if there were particular issues which the group felt weren’t being adequately addressed elsewhere.
All we are is Fine Gael people who are interested in have regular interaction with other Fine Gael people, and have an active discussion of the issues of the day on a regular basis in the Greater Dublin area. We are an informal group, we have no chairperson, no committees, no membership lists or constitution – and although we are committed fully to Fine Gael, we have no relationship with the party.
With all this in mind, this blog was set up to provide a calling card for the forum, to do the same as the Forum, but rather online. Like the Forum itself, the blog is open to all who think Fine Gael, and if you would like to contribute email librarybarforum@gmail.com. Views are those exclusively of those who make them, representing no-one but themselves. We have just one house rule, neither the blog (either comments or articles) nor the meetings themselves are to be used as vehicles to attack the party – whoever tries to do that will be give short-shrift.
